Free Affiliate Pro - Free Affiliate Programs - Pros and Cons
Filed Under (affiliate programs) by Derrik on 02-01-2010
Starting your own business isn’t easy. You have to have the money, time, persistence, and marketing know-how to become even moderately successful. That’s why free affiliate programs with established companies can work. The only thing you’ll have to spend any time on is marketing.
Bob was interested in starting a business, but only had $10,000 to work with, which was clearly nowhere near enough. Leasing can cost thousands of dollars a month, especially in metropolitan areas. Employees needed to be hired, and he would have to cover all the overhead costs, the money wasn’t there.
Instead of tossing his dreams out the window, Bob looked into free affiliate programs. Essentially, this meant he would sign with an established company to sell their products, while his only concern was marketing. Seems like the perfect solution; or is it?
There are many pros and cons involved with this. One pro is that all you need to worry about, and spend money on, is marketing. That means that Bob’s $10,000 can go directly into commercials, or ads on the web or billboards or in periodicals; he just needed to get the name out there. Free affiliate programs give potential business owners a head-start, an option those who start a business from scratch don’t have. Without worrying about delivery, billing, inventory, or customer service, all Bob is concerned with is letting people know he’s there.
Another big plus in this program is that it doesn’t have to be Bob’s only investment. He can operate the business and sell from his home business, thereby doubling his income. “Wow,” you think to yourself, “not only do I not have a business, I don’t even know what I want to do; but I really want to do this!” Slow down cowboy, it’s not that easy.
There are certainly some cons involved with free affiliate programs. First, and most importantly, an affiliate company is at the whim of its parent. Should the parent company decide to close down, Bob is plum out of luck. He’s also at the mercy of the parent for his profits; and if there is a percentage change, his take it’s usually in the downward direction. Another variable that needs to be considered is that unless you are a natural born marketer, you’ll be fighting an uphill battle.
This is why it is essential to join an affiliate marketing business that has an excellent track record with a history of marketing in different industries, so you can be sure that the affiliate program isn’t a “one hit wonder”. Also, any affiliate program you are looking at should have training and mentorship to take the complete “newbie” to an expert internet marketer, unfortunately this is something that most free affiliate programs don’t have. What’s the point of joining these free programs if they don’t train and mentor you to success? There is no point in having a great website and product if you don’t know how to drive targeted traffic to it!
